Wastewater Treatment Plant Receives “Outstanding Performance” Award for 2019

Thanks to the dedicated work of the South Kitsap Water Reclamation Facility (SKWRF) staff, the facility which is owned by the City of Port Orchard and West Sound Utility District received the 2019 Wastewater Treatment Plant Outstanding Performance” award from the Washington State Department of Ecology.

Of the 300 wastewater treatment plants statewide, the SKWRF was one of 125 that achieved full compliance with the EPA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. The facility team has earned this award several times in the past. This is an outstanding achievement.

The water that leaves your home or business and flows through the sewer system is treated at our Waste Water Treatment Facility. The team at the plant understands the importance of constant monitoring and diligent treatment of that wastewater. This award means that SKWRF’s treated wastewater, referred to as effluent, has consistently met the quality standards required for release into Sinclair Inlet.
