Don't Flush This

Want to protect the environment and keep our sewers working right? It's simple!

Putting the wrong things down the sewer system, cause sewer backups in your home, and sewer releases to the environment.

Basically, the only things you should ever flush down a toilet are human waste (urine and feces) and toilet paper. The label might say, “flushable,””disposable,””sewer and septic safe,” or “biodegradable.” The wipe size might be smaller. It makes no difference, because baby wipes can still clog your toilets and possible cause a sewer back up into your home

Please do not flush any of these items down your toilet!

  • disposable diapers
  • tampons and tampon applicators
  • sanitary napkins
  • cotton balls and swabs
  • mini or maxi pads
  • condoms
  • cleaning wipes of any kind
  • facial tissue
  • bandages and bandage wrappings
  • automotive fluids
  • paint, solvents, sealants and thinners
  • poisons and hazardous waste

Unused Medications
Do not flush unused medications down the toilet. You can safely dispose of medications in the garbage, or take medications to an approved prescription drug take-back site or event.

Get Food and Drug Administration guidance on disposing of unwanted medications.

Get information about drug take-back programs approved by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and find a Drug Take Back site near you.

Your efforts will help keep our sewer system running smoothly and reduce maintenance costs.  Thank you.
